Here’s the video of Barbara Tully of Indiana Vote by Mail telling the Indiana Senate Appropriations Committee why VVPATs don’t produce real paper ballots that can be used in an audit or recount of an election, and to not waste millions of taxpayers dollars on them.
They don’t listen to her.
Instead, they listen to the author of the bill, Rep. Timothy Wesco, who tells the senators that the VVPATs print out a paper ballot for voters to look at, which is the inserted into another machine.
This is false.
Based on this FALSE information, senators voted to pass the bill out of committee on a party-line vote, with all Republicans voting “yes” and all Democrats voting “no.”
The bill passed the full Senate on March 1 and was signed into law by Gov. Eric Holcomb on March 14.
Indiana will now be stuck with DRE machines with VVPATs in 57 of 92 counties for years to come, when these machines don’t provide real election security, according to top election security experts like Andrew Appel of Princeton University.
Infuriating.
